Faye (Haines) Fry

Faye (Haines) Fry, 78, died January 17, 2012 in Boise, Idaho (formally of Carlisle, PA.L

She was born on March 13, 1933, the fifth of eleven living children of Lewis and Dollie Haines of Newport, PA. Growing up, she played basketball for the Newport Buffalos. Faye married Frank Fry, Jr on June 2, 1957 and moved to California for Frank's job with the Forest service. Frank and Faye lived in many towns in northern California, where their three daughters were born. The family moved to McCall, Idaho in 1969 where Faye was an involved stay-at-home mother until 1976 when she began to volunteer at McCall-Donnelly Elementary SChool as recess and lunch watch and library helper. She took a job at the Shore Lodge working the front desk in 1978.

Faye loved sports all her life. In recent years, rooting for the Boise State Broncos, Pittsburg Steelers and Philadelphia Phillies. She always found a local bowling league. This last year seldom missed bowling on the Hillcrest Wii league. She was an avid card player and could knit the most beautiful sweaters. She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and spent many hours at the McCall senior Center. The family moved to Boise in 1979 where Faye had many jobs, ending her career at Albertson's.

Faye was preceded by her grandson, Brett Boyer in 1991 and Frank, her husband of 53 years, in 2011 and her brother Stanley. She is survived by her daughters, Carole (Eddie Boyer), Barbara (Verbon Johnson) and Joanne (Eric Jones), and her grandchildren, sara Boyer (Brian Wanstrom), Ethan and seth Johnson, Sisters Mildred Dobyns and Vera Asper, Brothers Ralph, Carl, Ray, Lenus, Donald, Marlin,
and Grover, and many loved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Boise at Hillcrest Retirement and Assisted Living Home on Thursday, January 26th at 2:00pm, officiated by Rev. Black from Wright Community Congregational Church. Faye will be interred next to her husband in New Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield, PA. 

David H. Carr

David H. Carr, 90, of Boise, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at a local hospital.  Cremation is under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.  At his request no services will be held.

David H. Carr was born May 17, 1921 in Gary, Indiana to Fred Carr and Amanda (Bullock) Carr.  David attended school in Gary.  David married Lucille (LaRose) Carr and together they had two children, Drusilla and David, Jr.  After the death of Lucille, David later married Thelma Martin Finch in Santa Rosa, California in 1978.  He lived in various places in Indiana, Minnesota, and California before finally settling in Idaho.  David worked as a Union Painter in the Bay area.  His interests including sailing, duck hunting, fishing and he was a champion trap shooter.

Survivors include his spouse, Thelma Carr; daughter, Drusilla (Curtis) Vandenburgh, Klamath Falls, OR; three stepchildren; grandsons Roy and Brian Vandenburgh of Stockton, California; and seven great-grandchildren, Megan, Chelsea, B.J. (Stefanie), Robert, Tyler, Devan and Sierra Rose.  He was preceded in death by son, David H. Carr, Jr., grandson, Kyle Carr, and three brothers and two sisters.

Ruth K. Bunderson


Ruth K. Bunderson was born September 18, 1914 in Bern, Idaho. She was raised and educated in Idaho. She married Alton P. Bunderson in 1931 in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah.  She lived in Boise from 1947 until the time of her death at age 97 and lived independently until her last year.  She served as secretary for the Regional Director of the National Safety Council from 1949 to 1968 and as a secretary for the Idaho Department of Law Enforcement from 1968-1980 at which time she retired.

She was an active member of the Saint Alphonsus Auxiliary for many years. Ruth was a very caring, generous, responsible, and wonderful lady who always put her family first. She maintained her interest in the community, politics, and the world. Adapting to life from horse-drawn wagons to today’s iPhone was a continual marvel for her.  A trip to Idaho’s Sawtooth mountains for some fresh air and a good meal was always a welcome journey.

She was preceded in death by her husband AP and three sons, Joe, John and Tom.  She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sandra Bunderson, and six grandchildren: Todd (Becky) Bunderson, Deidre (Dan) Brown, Scott (Debbie Bennett) Bunderson, Jana Gill, Laura Stott, Rachel (Jed) Robinson, and 13 great grandchildren.  A private family service will be held at Dry Creek Cemetery.

Gloria J. Osgood


Gloria J. Osgood, 93, of Boise, died at home, surrounded by her family, on January 15, 2012.  She was born on September 12, 1918, in Burley to parents Harrison B. Powers and Jessie Jolley Powers.  Gloria was proud of being an Idaho native and of her pioneer heritage. 

Gloria was a voracious reader with a life long interest in politics.  She was interviewed and recorded for an oral history project, “Boise By Heart.”  She loved antiques, good chocolate, and babies; above all she loved her husband, Raymond.  She was intelligent, independent, and opinionated.

Stricken with polio as a child, Gloria recovered to live a full and active life.  She graduated from Boise High School in 1936, and from Boise Business College two years later.  She worked at Idaho Hardware, leaving to marry and become a full time house wife and mother. 

Gloria married Raymond J. Osgood on September 12, 1939.  They settled in Boise in a tiny house that Ray remodeled and enlarged after coming home from World War II.  Except for a short stay in Nampa, Gloria lived in that same house all her adult life. 

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Jessie Powers, and her husband Ray, by her brother and sister in law, Bob and Bernice Powers, and by her sister and brother in law, Colleen and Jerry Kendall.  An infant grandson, Richard, also preceded her. 

She is survived by her daughters, Jeannine Nichols and Diane Broom, and her son David Osgood and daughter in law, Sharon Osgood.  Six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four nieces and a nephew also survive her, as do several faithful friends. 

The family wishes to thank Legacy Hospice, Havenwood Caregivers, and Assisting Hands Caregivers for making it possible for Gloria to live and die with dignity in her own home.  Services are planned through Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel.  Friends and family may visit the Chapel on Thursday, January 19, from 5 till 8 o’clock.  Music at 6:30.  Graveside services are set for 10:30 AM on Friday, January 20, at Morris Hill Cemetery.  Reverend Mike Black of Wright Community Congregational Church will officiate.

Ernestine May Haynes


Ernestine M. Haynes, 96, long-time Eagle resident, passed away January 15, 2012, at a local care facility, in the presence of family.

She was born in Roberts, Idaho, on May 22,1915, and moved with her family to homestead at Ustick City, Idaho, while still an infant. In 1933 she graduated from Meridian High School and within a year met and married, Carl F. Haynes. Ernestine and her late husband raised cattle and farmed on acreage northwest of Eagle, in the Linder and Floating Feather area. Their union produced one son, Curtis F. Haynes, formerly of Boise and now deceased.

Ernestine enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, crochet, and traveling with her husband. Following retirement, the couple toured extensively through Alaska, Hawaii and the Panama Canal. They also enjoyed being “Snowbirds” and living in Yuma, AZ, during the Winter months.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her late husband Carl, and her only child Curtis. She is survived by her sister, Ruby Morris of Bend, OR; daughter-in-law Joan Lothrop, mother to grand-daughters Whitney Wood (Eric) and Carrie Gibson (Douglas), both of Boise; and two great-grand-children, Amanda and Sean Gibson.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, at Dry Creek Cemetery, under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.

Thomas R. Strayer


Thomas R. Strayer, 87, of Boise, passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 in a local hospital. A viewing will be held today, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, from 4-7 p.m., at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Alden-Waggoner with Pastor Tim Bridgewater, from Park Center Assembly officiating. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m., at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise.

Thomas R. Strayer, was born on May 9, 1924 to LeRoy and Juanita Strayer, in Des Moines, Iowa. Tom married Katherine (Kay) Marturello on Aug. 15, 1942 in Princeton, Missouri. After they got married, Tom enlisted in the US Navy and served in WWII. He served for over 32 years in the Navy culminating with his retirement from the service. They lived in Des Moines, and moved to Boise in 1957. Tom was employed with Sears and then Northwest Heating. Tom and Kay were married for 69 years.

Tom is survived by his wife Kay Strayer of Boise; daughters, Jaunita Bernard of St. Paul, MN, Marie Bishop (Jack) of Cordova, TN, and Cindy Berry of Mountain Home, ID; one son, Thomas Strayer (Jacquelyn) of Bend, OR; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Roselynn; brothers, George and LeRoy; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

John B. Wade


John B. Wade
May 15, 1960 – January 3, 2012

John B. Wade, died unexpectedly on Jan. 3, 2012. John was born in Fresno, CA, to Wilson and Emily (Kratochvil) Wade. He also lived on Mercer Island, WA; in Napierville IL; Bloomington, MN; with many trips to Texas to see family; Santa Rosa, CA; a summer in Spokane, WA; Omaha, NE; and finally, Boise, ID.

“Drummer John” to his friends, was preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his brother Stephen (Sharon) Wade and family of Burnsville, MN; and his loving wife, Jean Davis of Boise.

Per his request, he will be cremated and no services held. He was a good man with a beautiful soul. Memorial donations can be made to the John Wade Memorial Fund at any Idaho Central Credit Union, or a charity of your choice. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Boise.
